The Scriptures
Introduction

(Top)

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Savior of mankind. He established a church here on the earth in his mortal ministry and He guided it for the people of that time. His followers and leaders of the church he established made records of his work which are contained in the Bible. With the fall of His church, the deaths of his followers, as well as the death of the church He established, a dark time came over the earth in what is known as the great apostasy. The priesthood of God had been lifted from the earth. As was prophesied in the Bible, a "restitution of all things"
(Acts 3:19-21) was to occur and the church of Christ and the fullness of His gospel were restored to the earth. Christ's church, His gospel, His priesthood, and His church leadership have been restored in these latter days. He continues to guide His flock in a changing world just as He always has and prophets and apostles continue to document His words and guidance. God has not changed. He continues to guide us through His Son and has set up a church with the same structure that existed in the time of Christ. To learn of His gospel and His church here is a resource to access the scriptures and some ideas on how to study them and where to go to learn and understand His gospel.
The Works

The Holy Bible is a work that records events of His life as well as divine events, instruction, and beliefs from before he was born, and the events and struggles of the members of His church once He was killed. In the Old Testament we see the covenants that were made by His people of old. Multiple dispensations and restorations were experienced by multiple prophets as the nature of man corrupted or destroyed His church. When He was born to fill a divine role that would allow us the possibility of salvation we were given the gospel as He taught it and as was recorded.

The Book of Mormon is another testament of His ministry and work. While church history was being recorded on the Eastern Hemisphere there were also peoples of the American continents who were experiencing prophesy and much of the same anticipation that those of their ancestors were experiencing. They looked for the signs of the Saviors birth and the coming of the gospel. When the time came, the Savior visited them as was as instructed in John 10:16, "And aother• bsheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be cone• fold, and one shepherd." He established His church among those people as well. Prophets among them, as chosen by God, recorded the events and teachings just as they were in the biblical regions. Those histories were translated by a modern-day prophet named Joseph Smith who, through much tribulation much like the prophets of the time of Christ, was called and chosen of God to restore Christ's church on the earth in our time.

The Doctrine and Covenants contain the instruction of God as given to modern-day prophets. Because God cares about His children now as He has in dispensations past, He has allowed the reestablishment of Christ's church in our time, the final dispensation before the second coming of Christ. We have insight into what we must do and who we must be in order to become like Christ and make the necessary covenants to return to Him and God the Father. Much of the history of the early restored church of this dispensation is also recorded here.

The Pearl of Great Price is another record revealing truths that God would have his children of the latter day understand. It tells of the early days of Adam and Moses and the relationship that we have with Christ as well as the role Satan plays in the plan that God put forth for us to return to Him.

Other works are available through the church web site. Magazines and other media provide the direction and instruction of  today's prophet Gordon B. Hinckley and the apostles and other church leaders. I refer to some of them in the Resources and Study Ideas portions of this site.

Purpose of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints

(Top)

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has developed multiple internet sites to provide members and non-members of the church with the information and guidance to grow closer to Christ. After all, it is Christ who will guide us to do what is necessary to return to Him. Because of the importance of relationships, we are able to grow closer to our families, friends and others. It is God's "awork• and my bglory•—to bring to pass the cimmortality• and deternal elife of man" (Moses 1:39) so as a church we strive to aid God in his work.

I have found that studying the scriptures brings us closer to our objective of becoming Christ-like and finding salvation. I know that the prophets that write these works are men of God. I know that His church is upon the earth today and that we are able to find peace and happiness because of our role in His work.
