Whether you hike for many miles or take a day hike you are in the right sport. Hiking is awesome for exercise and for pure enjoyment of nature. Get to the hills or desert or where ever there is clean air and few people. Be sure to go prepared and get out and enjoy the smell of pine or sage or find your way through a deciduous grove.

When hiking take the right gear and foot wear as well as nourishing supplies. Map our your route and take a buddy.

There are many web sites and map stores that can get you set up for navigation. You can find gear at your local store as well.

Break yourself into hiking. The Boy Scouts do a 50-miler from time to time. Don't jump on that band wagon until you are prepared. Take a day hike. Then, in the near future, take an overnighter. Build up your muscles, mentality, and calluses for longer hikes.

Take mole skin. It is a bandage like a thick band-aid that covers potential blister areas and already formed blisters.

Take a reliable vehicle and take a camera.

Document your hikes both in pictures and on paper. You will find that looking back over notes from old trips is a lot of fun. Learn some great stories, jokes, and pieces of info that would be good to share as you hike along.

Enjoy your trip and stay safe!
