| Some
people fish for the sport, some for the therapy, and
some for the social aspect. Any way you look at it, you
can enjoy it if you like to relax and wait for a bit of
luck.
There are several types
of fishing: fly fishing, lure fishing, hand fishing, concussion
fishing, net fishing. We will briefly describe each:
- Lure/Bait Fishing -
You will need to check into the legality of the body
of water you plan to fish but you may use
manufactured bait or live bait or a combination of
both. Some prefer to drop a worm, sinker, and bobber
into the water and lay back and watch the clouds go
by. Some love the action of a lure as they cast over
and over and reel it in at a varied rate. Some like
to fight the current of a stream. For techniques and
lures go to the Links page
click on "Fishing" in the center of the
page.
- Fly Fishing - Fly
fishing is more of an art. It requires more
investment in time and money and education. Once you
pick it up you can catch some real whoppers. For
techniques and lures go to the Links
page click on "Fishing" in the center of
the page. There is a site called "fishandfly"
that gives great articles.
- Hand Fishing - In many
states this form of fishing is illegal. It consists
of trapping fish in a stream or other body of water
and catching them with your hands. For survival it
may work well but for sport it is likely not legal,
although it may be loads of fun.
- Concussion Fishing -
Highly illegal this form of fishing consists of an
explosion of some sort into the water. There are
stories of people dropping dynamite or shooting high
powered rifles into the water. The fish come to the
surface belly up because of the shock of the
explosion. Do not try this for your safety and
because of the lack of sport.
- Net Fishing -
Commercial fishers live off of this type of fishing.
In some bodies of water it is illegal depending on
how the net is used.
However you fish, be sure
it is legal and that you are having fun and most of all
make sure that you are relaxing.
If you plan to eat the
fish then take your limit and let the others go. If you
do not eat them then conserve them and take precautions
to be able to let them go. "Catch and Release"
is a great concept to keep in mind.
